First Annual Pumpkin Carving

October 2023

Gourd Times at the First Annual Upward Architecture Pumpkin Carving

On October 20th, 2023, the Upward Architecture crew celebrated the season and swapped out floor plans for pumpkin guts at our First Annual Pumpkin Carving. With a few carving tools, a little competitive spirit, and a lot of laughs, we gathered at our downtown Seattle office to make some Halloween magic.

Each freshly-carved masterpiece found its way into our storefront window, where they illuminated Western Avenue for passersby and especially the kids from KidsCentre, the neighborhood daycare around the corner. As they trick-or-treated past our building, little ghouls and goblins got to enjoy the glowing pumpkins all the way through Halloween.

This event wasn’t about deadlines or details—it was about pausing to enjoy each other’s company and making a little mess along the way. Annalisa Castelli and her husband Kevin, Will Siegel, Mark and Erin Ward, and Peter Benarcik all showed up to carve, laugh, and sneak candy (quality control, of course). With laughter, friendly competition, and a classic gory horror movie playing in the background, the afternoon was a welcome reminder of the value in connecting as a team. We’re already looking forward to making this an Upward tradition.
