EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Food Lifeline

June 2024

Wontons, Work Gloves, and a Whole Lot of Teamwork

On June 13th, the Upward Architecture team rolled up our sleeves for another food packing day at Food Lifeline—this time with an even bigger crew. Joining us were J Iron and Jeremy Bonnell from Miovic Reinhardt Construction, our clients Josh and Rebekah from MVMT MTHD Lagree Studio (plus their kids Blaze and Elin), Nathan Nguyen and Alan Tsui from Foushee Construction, and Ida Otteson from MIG Landscape Architecture.

Together, we packed 2,250 pounds of frozen wontons into family-sized portions for food banks across Washington. It’s hard to describe the satisfying rhythm of scooping, sealing, and boxing when a whole team is working side by side—and even harder to believe how quickly the pallets disappeared when so many hands pitched in.

Working alongside clients, contractors, and fellow designers added another layer of connection, demonstrating how shared purpose can bring diverse groups together to support a common cause. It was a great reminder that collaboration (in all its forms) makes the biggest impact. We’re grateful to Food Lifeline for providing these opportunities to give back and look forward to continuing our involvement in the months ahead.
