This West Seattle residence, located between Fauntleroy Park and the Puget Sound, underwent a comprehensive renovation that blends thoughtful space planning with modern comfort. Upward Architecture reimagined the home’s entry sequence, kitchen, and upper level to create an environment that feels open, light-filled, and deeply connected to the homeowner’s lifestyle. The transformation began with strategic exterior changes, including the expansion and redesign of the front entry, powder room, and kitchen pantry—improving the home’s functional flow.
The kitchen serves as the heart of the renovation, where walls were removed to create a contemporary space anchored by a generous island with built-in shelving. Rich blue cabinetry, brass hardware, and a sculptural metal range hood give the room a tailored elegance, while new windows and a reconfigured layout allow natural light to cascade across the herringbone tile backsplash and warm wood floors. This modernized space was designed for both culinary creativity and social connection, offering an ideal setting for family gatherings and entertaining.
Upstairs, the addition of three dormers redefined both the exterior silhouette and the livability of the upper-level primary suite. One dormer houses a custom-built shower in the owner’s en-suite, where marble-patterned tile, black fixtures, and geometric patterned floors create a bright, spa-like retreat. Another dormer forms a cozy office nook with built-in shelving, while the third expands the bedroom’s footprint, introducing new opportunities for natural light and comfortable seating areas. Throughout, finishes and details strike a balance between crisp modern lines and the warmth of natural materials.
The result is a home that feels tailored yet approachable—where each space has been reconsidered for beauty, function, and connection to its surroundings. By enhancing light, expanding views, and refining circulation, the renovation not only improved the home’s day-to-day livability but also positioned it for decades of enjoyment in one of Seattle’s most desirable neighborhoods.
