As part of the Port of Seattle’s competitive tenant selection process for SEA Airport, our team developed a proposal for a Jimmy John’s location in the B Concourse. The design adapts the national brand’s signature identity to resonate with the Pacific Northwest’s aesthetic, values, and traveler expectations, while meeting the operational demands of a high-volume airport setting.

The storefront is anchored by the bold red-and-black Jimmy John’s brand palette, framed with warm wood finishes and natural textures that temper the modern edge with a local sensibility. To foster a Pacific Northwest sense of place, the proposal integrated opportunities for locally sourced ingredients, sustainable operations, and community engagement. These included the potential for bread baked in the region, biodegradable packaging, and partnerships with local charities or events. The layout offers travelers multiple options for fast, convenient service—whether ordering in-person, picking up an online order, or grabbing a quick beverage from the self-serve soda and tea station. The open, linear flow improves visibility from the concourse, while menu soffits, clear signage, and organized queuing help speed transactions.

Durability and maintainability were central to the design, with finishes and fixtures chosen for high-traffic resilience and easy cleaning. Flooring surfaces, prep area ceramic tiles, and wall panels were selected for low VOC emissions and long-lifecycle performance. Every design decision—from material sourcing to layout—was guided by the goal of delivering Jimmy John’s signature “Freaky Fast” service in a setting that feels at home in the Pacific Northwest.

Though the tenant was ultimately not selected by the Port, this concept reflects our team’s ability to merge a strong national brand identity with SEA Airport’s emphasis on local culture, sustainability, and efficient passenger service.
