Crimson Wine Group, based in Napa, California, owns and operated two celebrated Pacific Northwest wineries: Double Canyon in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills and Archery Summit in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The Estates Tasting Room, located in Seattle’s Pioneer Square Historic District, was designed to translate the essence of these wineries into an urban setting—bringing vineyard, terroir, and craft to a historic city block.
The design concept places storytelling at the forefront. Visitors enter through a century-old brick storefront into a sequence of tasting spaces anchored by a dramatic lenticular art installation. Depending on one’s path, the installation shifts between expansive vineyard images—revealing Double Canyon when arriving and Archery Summit when departing. This layered visual experience immerses guests in the landscapes and agricultural heritage that define each winery’s character.
Historic architectural elements are celebrated and paired with refined modern insertions. Exposed brick walls, timber beams, and wood flooring provide warmth and authenticity, while custom lighting, polished tasting bar, and curated retail displays add sophistication. Public and private tasting areas, flexible seating, a prep kitchen, and support spaces are carefully organized to serve both intimate gatherings and larger hosted events.
By weaving together historic context, contemporary design, and immersive imagery, the Estates Tasting Room creates a bridge between city and vineyard. Guests experience not just the wines of Double Canyon and Archery Summit, but the places and stories that make them unique. Developed in collaboration with Best Practice Architecture, the project reflects a shared commitment to design that elevates both brand and experience. Mark worked on this project while he was a founding partner at Urbanadd.
”Attracting people to Horse Heaven Hills and getting them out to the middle of nowhere is really tough even after they’ve tasted the wine. This location in the heart of Pioneer Square is really our front door, and we want to create a passion for the brand where we can touch the most people.

”Mark was a true pleasure to work with on The Estates Wine Room. This was a unique project for Crimson Wine Group, a jump into a business concept and city where we had very little prior experience. Mark was a thoughtful partner from the beginning, and guided our constantly-evolving team through every step of the process, always with our objectives and vision in mind.
We were extremely pleased with the ultimate result—a tasting room and retail space that is uniquely striking and communicates our brand values--a place where we are proud to showcase our wines.
